Certification

Currently there are no requirements for geospatial workers to be certified. Certification is a process under which a person completes a set of requirements specified by the certifying organization that the individual has been recognized by their peers as being competent in the field and usually requires some evidence of commitment to professional ethics. There are three organizations that offer voluntary certification. Each of these certifications have different requirements and may include: education, work experience, ethic code or an examination. As a student, you should be familiar with the requirements of these organizations and collect the data that may be needed if you decide in the future that you want to become certified. If you are interested in becoming a Surveyor, you should also check the regulations by the state in which you intend to practice as to regulations for Licensure for surveyors.
