Organizations

The organizations listed on this page are recommended to our geospatial educators as a resource of membership information for your professional development. The GeoTech Center believes all faculty members should be a member of at least one professional organization to maintain and improve their professional practice. 

The Urban Resource Information System Association (URISA) is a non-profit professional and educational association that promotes the effective and ethical use of spatial information and information technologies for the understanding and management of urban and regional systems. It is a multidisciplinary association where professionals from all parts of the spatial data community can come together and share concerns and ideas.

   
The Geospatial Infrastructure and Technology Association (GITA) is the professional association and advocate for anyone using geospatial technology to help operate, maintain, and protect the infrastructure which includes organizations such as utilities, telecommunication companies, and the public sector. Through industry-leading conferences—along with research initiatives, chapters, membership, and other programs—GITA provides education and professional best practices.
   
The GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) is a non-profit organization that provides geographical information systems Community with a certification program.  GISCI offers participants for the early on the job until retirement a positive method of developing value for professionals and employers in the GIS profession.
   
The American Association of Geographers (AAG) is a scientific and educational society founded in 1904. Its 10,000 members share interests in the theory, methods, and practice of geography and geographical education.
   
The American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) is a scientific association serving over 7,000 professional members around the world. Our mission is to advance knowledge and improve understanding of mapping sciences to promote the responsible applications of photogrammetry, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and supporting technologies. 
   

The National Council on Geographic Education (NCGE), chartered in 1915 to enhance the status and quality of geography teaching and learning.  NCGE supports geography teaching at all levels--from kindergarten through university.  Our members include both American and International educators, professors, professionals, students, business and others who support geographic education.
